Ursula Rindlisbacher Iseli

Biography

Ursula Rindlisbacher Iseli was born in Bern, Switzerland, in 1959. From 1986 to 2016, she regularly took classes at the School of Applied Arts (now the Bern School of Design) in drawing, painting, and printing techniques, as well as various other subjects taught by renowned artists. She acquired knowledge in the field of intaglio printing from Ursula Jakob and Patricia Schneider, and learned woodcut techniques from In Ho Baik. She graduated from the Bern School of Design in 2016 with a degree in “Printing and Design.” As her artistic training suggests, her oeuvre spans both graphic art and painting. Despite the different techniques, the starting point and motivation for the artist are always the same: it always begins with a fascination with a moment and a sense of wonder at nature or the colorful hustle and bustle of people. The homage to the special moment, which oscillates in shadow play, rhythms, forms, and sounds, then materializes in her works. Rindlisbacher Iseli always traces the details and tensions: with her image, she lends something universal to the subject she depicts, as she captures the typical characteristics of a beetle, a bird, or a market scene. However, she is aware that it is only the uniqueness of the situation and the singularity of things that enable her to perceive anything at all. Something of the moment of encounter thus remains alive and preserved in the painting and printing process. It runs like a thread through the genesis of each picture. The experience of the special, which art is capable of representing in this tension between singularity and universality, is at the same time an experience of the natural in the visual arts. Ursula Rindlisbacher Iseli’s artistic work aims to convey this mystery as a form of wonder to the world, while remaining open to new ideas and, above all, retaining a joy in every detail. So far, the artist has mainly exhibited in Switzerland. She has been represented internationally by the LDXArt Gallery since 2026.
