Evelyn Hörmann

Biography

Evelyn Hörmann was born in Tettnang in 1967. Between 2005 and 2007 she attended the private art school in Überlingen with Ursula Erchinger and Gudrun Rieder. Until 2017 she continued her training in painting with well-known artists. However, she has been running her own studio in Friedrichshafen already since 2007. Since 2010 she has been working as a lecturer in experimental acrylic painting. Her current works are based on old photos that tell family and travel stories and provide documents from a time long gone. With these photographs, Evelyn Hörmann works experimentally in the form of collages, screen printing or simply by applying oil and acrylic paints to rough surfaces. These haptic surfaces can be created by metal powder, earth, charcoal, ash and coffee on nettle fabric, canvases, various types of paper and wood and MDF boards. Different layers of colours and material create the appropriate luminosity and depth. But it is not only the technical side of the artworks that attracts and fascinates viewers, but also their content: the metaphysical significance of her images, which repeatedly ask the questions: “Who are we, where do we come from and where are we headed?” is evident in the connection between the old photographs and the paintings, which relate today to yesterday. They clothe humanity in an enigmatic mood and show the opacity of existence. The obviousness of a photograph is concealed by the hand of the artist, who, in addition to consciously making changes to the image, also gives free space to the chance of becoming. This mystical transfiguration, which is created by the different layers, among other things, ensures that one keeps discovering new details in the image: This is also a metaphor for the fact that life, with its wealth of detail, never lets boredom arise. Evelyn Hörmann has already been represented internationally by Galerie Makowski and Galartery fine art. She has been a member of KUN:ST INTERNATIONAL since 2023. LDXArt has represented the artist since 2025.
